07.13a: Mystery of the Day

Post by Rasanam »

After arriving and setting up his maze, Rasanam goes to talk briefly with Harrune.

"Have you seen Ossian yet?" he asks quietly.

((Assuming a negative response...)) "I thought I would go look for him... but it occurred to me that you might wish to do that yourself. If you would like, I can cover greeting early arrivals. Or we could both go."

"No, I have not seen him yet. He must be somewhere about. Honestly he picked an inconvenient time to disappear, but he had no way of knowing. Had things gone badly his strength and counsel would have been a much needed asset."

Harrune looks around at the few early arrivals. "While I'm being honest, I should say that my presence at the moment is decorative than functional. There will be plenty of time to mingle as the evening progresses. Since we had discussed a plan to experience what he just did, it would seem profitable to ask him while the impressions are still fresh in his mind. I think it would be best to do this together rather than force him to repeat himself. Shall we go?"

Rasanam nods, and starts to head off. "May as well see if he's in his quarters, first."

For those who are members of Tir'na Nog'th, there are quarters for all amberites in the castle. They are well kept and cleaned and refreshed every night. however, due to the castle vanishing, they are not often used as long term housing. Still, they are a great place for a short rest and Dworkin does keep them stocked with very high-end equipment and resources.

Ossian's quarters are fairly large, an entrance of a fairly elaborate double-doors carved with a legend of how Ossian came to Amber. It depicts him leaving his son and daughter for the trip and them aging to dust before he was able to return. The artwork is exquisite and in depth*.

There is a pull-chain doorbell made of fine mithril, the chain going through a small hole in the stone walls.

Harrune will spend a moment looking at the story on the door. "I know the story, but it is always a sad reminder. His story is in some ways similar to mine. At least I was not married and did not have children. When I first returned only one of my siblings was still alive, and she was very old at the time. Their children and their children were enough of a family connection for me. It was not enough for Ossian. We have all paid a price to be here, and his was higher than mine."

Harrune reaches up and pulls the chain...

The door will open after a few moments. Ossian is there, looking like death-warmed-over. "Oh! Please, do come in." He will offer before opening the door all the way. "I, sorry, did we have plans to meet?" He will ask.

The room itself is well furnished with throws and celtic-style tapestries. Chairs are large and mostly wood, exquisitely carved into scenes of peace. A gigantic four-post bed is set against one wall and has a similar style. The center of the room is dominated by a table large enough for a feast for twelve. It has a meager breakfast, only half-eaten, on it.

The walls are fresco-style murals depicting all kinds of irish mythology. Near the bed is a weapons rack that holds his spear and other weapons of the finest quality.

"Plans? No we didn't have a plan to meet you this evening. We had heard that you spent the day here. That was something we had meant to investigate ourselves, so it made sense to check on you and see what your experience was."

Harrune looks a little sheepish. "Also, I did something that wasn't exactly planned either. I went on a Hellride to find the home of these so-called Hivers. Fortunately there have been no repercussions...yet. Cameron is following up on that. Your counsel was missed earlier and I am glad that we will have it when Cameron returns."

"...are you alright?"

Rasanam nods and follows Harrune in, though he doesn't add anything to the conversation just yet - at least for the moment, Harrune seems to have said everything that needs saying.

Ossian looks back... "Oh, of course... Harrune." He says, with a bit too much of a delay before your name. "It was, a long day." He will shake his head a little. "So, any news of uh, what we were doing?"

Rasanam shrugs. "There's not that much that's happened. Harrune investigated Hivers a bit; I'll let him tell you about that. I encountered a manticore and a few lions on my trip into the forest, as well as a rather dangerously overgrown copy of Amber..."

Rasanam has a sketchbook out, and will (given even the least demonstration of interest from Ossian) be perfectly happy to show sketches of any of the creatures encountered.
