07.09h: Flotsam on the seas of reality

"What? Oh sorry, that wasn't a comment about the clothes. I've traveled enough to not consider much of any fashion odd. Seriously, that's a good look for you. I was just looking at your build, the way you carry yourself, the way you move. I just assumed that you'd be interested in the more physical games. If this is a festival then I guess they don't come around often. I'd just hate for you to miss out because of me."

Kevin things for a moment. "If he affects fate here, then to make me show up when I did would mean that his effect goes beyond his dimension...shadow...whatever you want to call it. It would have to some kind of ripple effect. I'm not saying that's impossible, but it is kinda scary to think about."

[Joshua]

"I think it's more of a 'if you show up here, it will be on this date'. To be honest, it's just a rumor. It is one possible explanation though. And... yes. This is the central world. All others are shadows of it. I think what happens here affects all others." Oberon will state. "Again, I haven't had much of a chance to explore that."

He will shrug. "So... How about a turkey leg? If you have been on a long journey, there's plenty of food we can talk over. As for this festival... Yes it is once a year, but I can walk to a similar festival any time I desire."

[Spellbinder]

"Alright, I think I'm getting at least the basics sorted out. By the sounds of it no one knows all of the details, so I guess I'm not too far behind."

"Food would be great! It was a long trip, and mostly the food was fairly bad. It would be nice not to have to literally sing for my supper for a change...or conjure."

"Even if you can go to similar, it wouldn't be the same. I guess copies never would be because you know they are copies. And yes, you could compete, but not with the people you know here. You could play to an audience, but it wouldn't be the same audience. No one here would know if you won or lost. I don't know how important that is to you, but it is a difference."

[Joshua]

"That is true. But, still, these orcs are not where we normally stay. I already enjoyed myself with the jousts on Monday. Besides, I wouldn't want to create an incident. Cameron did that by trashing the head orc; at least he's an orc as well. If I did it, there might be war. Still, they usually have some innovative choices..." He mentions as the orc on the battle panther clashes against a goblin on a worg (dire-wolf). "So, they are interesting ot watch. If you want..."

He will lead you to somewhere in the stands to get a good view, but far enough away from the noise so you can continue to talk without interruption.

"And yes. The fact this is real and the other places are not does weigh heavily on thoughts."

"Well this gives me a chance to scope out the locals and learn who lives here. I recognize some of the types I'm seeing. I see some that look familiar but don't act like I'm used to. Some, I just don't have a clue. If I'm going to stay I need to do something about that. From what Quin says I get to start on a new batch tomorrow. There's a lot to learn. I just hope I don't get too many people mad at me in the process. Don't get me wrong, I've dealt with non-humans before, but I'm used to meeting them one or two types at a time, not dozens. With that many different sub-cultures I'm bound to step on a few toes here and there."

[Joshua]

Oberon will nod. "Well, the big thing is to be careful of what you say. Dworkin..." Oberon will gesture at the balcony set into the mountain where the dwarf is still arguing with his shadow. "has decreed us able to make laws with our words. Beyond that, most of them are worried about offending us. We are the ones with the power here. It is more important not to take offense then not to give it."

He will shrug. "Thankfully, we are more within the human parts. I sometimes let the others handles the orcs. Morgana, Harrune and Ashara are the ones in charge of the other three courts. I haven't seen Harrune in a while, but Morgana is over there with the children. You do not have to meet everyone at once, but we can make the rounds. Those are the ones you may want to be concerned about offending, as they have the same powers we do. Still, most are agreeable." he will draw his deck, and fan through it... "Let's see..."

He will go over them briefly in turn.

"If you have any questions though..."

"Questions? Only about a million of them. Honestly, I probably don't know enough yet to ask the really important ones. I think the big one right is clarifying my status. You seem to be treating me as an equal, but from what Quin said that's not quite accurate. Being able to walk the shadows gives me higher social status, but until I walk the Pattern I'm still lower than all of you, right?"

[Joshua]

"Technically..." he will say. "At this level, I suspect it'd be like a crown prince. It is a matter of who would be willing to argue with you and who would be willing to back you on the chance you will ascend." He will think about it. "I do prefer to think of you as an equal, even the normal people are relatively equal. I prefer to be concerned with skill rather than title."

He will ponder. "I don't have many special skills beyond pattern. Although, I am fairly well versed in the hand-to-hand combat skills." He will ponder. "What skills do you wish to be known for?"

[Spellbinder]

"Thank you for that."

"What do I want to be known for? Well, just how much need is there for a superhero around here? Honestly that's the closest thing to a job I had before leaving home. It's a good thing Mom had money because it's not a job that brings in a paycheck. But a part of that was that I was one of the best wizards of my world. I definitely wasn't THE best, but in the top 5. Okay, maybe top 10. But still, I'm really good for my age. Casting spells, conjuring, enchanting I can do. I never got around to learning about alchemy. Given how much magic is limited here I'm not sure that even holds up here. So, I guess my magical skills are something worth being known for."

"About titles, I do call myself a superhero and that is a title I'm proud of. That isn't about power, but character. We used our powers to fight evil, uphold justice and protect those who were weaker than we were. I think that's a damn good thing to be known for."

[Joshua]

"Superhero?" Oberon will ask. "I have only seen those in stories, and picture-books at that. All of us, the Amberites, can operate on that level. It pays... well, anything you want it to really. Be careful with that one, but in general we can give a lot more than we take. A quick walk through Shadow for rare supplies and you can legitimately live for a year or so, without resorting to demanding tribute. Still, even those of us who have done that have been careful not to overdo it. Usually gifts are freely offered, so that demands do not have to follow."

He will shrug as he watches Odin shapeshift. "That's, not all that rare. Ossian and Krajk can do other forms, although I think it's a single other form. Same with the Raven... He's... I'm not sure why Raven is considered human and the others are not to be honest. There's also a number in Ht'Gon. Some of that is sorcery- er conjuration, but a few.. are something else."
