Alys' gaze snaps up to Osmund as he comments on "erasing" worlds; her eyes narrowed and dangerous. After a few moments, she scans the room instead, and makes a small hand gesture - apparently a signal to Tinder, who steps out of the fireplace, walks a few careful circles in front of it to shake off ash and embers, and then slips quietly out of the room.

Trina fans out the cards, glances quickly at one, and then replaces them."Excellent art work. If anyone would like some tutelage, just ask."

Osmund's statements provoke only a faint smile and a tilt of her head, as she comments, "I find your statement curious, Osmund. How would one erase something that can show up again with a thought? It would be like building a sand castle at high tide. Are you," and Trina's voice seems almost serious for once, "certain you chose your words correctly?"

"Oh," Alys comments off-handedly, "I'm not sure 'erase' is the verb I would have chosen, but the destruction of an unattended shadow is certainly well within his power."

Trina's eyes narrow as she looks at Alys. "We still have the same conundrum. True destruction would imply that the shadow is gone and cannot be imagined into being the same way again. That ignores the nature of the pattern. Osmund, who or what is Pich?" For those watching her, Trina continues watching Alys.

"Really, your sand castle metaphor is rather apt. Build a castle, and someone comes along and kicks it - you can, given enough time, reconstruct it, putting every grain of sand back into its place. But when the tide comes in, that's the end of it. You may be able to find and save a few grains, and you can certainly build something that looks the same - if you don't look too closely. But some of those grains were sea salt and dissolved entirely, and some will be tumbled and polished into new shapes by the ocean, and some will be dragged into the depths and simply lost amidst the detritus of the ocean floor. The castle - the one you started with - is gone, dissolved into chaos, and recovering more than bits and fragments is impossible."

Alys pauses, considering for a moment. "Though, I suppose I wouldn't put it past Dworkin to achieve such a feat anyway. Or perhaps the Unicorn. 'Impossible' seems to mean relatively little to either of them."

"He's an elf, had a shard of something that could move reality. It wasn't real, only worked on things that were not real." Osmund shivers and pulls himself tighter at all the attention.

Renny files all this new information away for future digesting, then goes back to the start of this thread of conversation. "Hang on a moment. Osmund, are you saying you tried to erase this place? To destroy it more or less permanently?"

"I suppose it all depends on what you see as the Sand castle. I'd always thought of Amber as the sand castle and Shadow as the water. Journey in it long enough and you find something you've never seen anywhere else. Stay out in it long enough and you get lost in it's current's. But we'll have to finish this conversation later. I find Renny's question interesting, especially since it would mean he can erase a shadow. I'd like to know just how much you failed by when trying to "erase" Amber."
