Re: 07.01g: The Seventh Winter (Fireside Table)
Ruben was content to sit back from the table and let the conversation play out around him. For now, proximity to the conversation between Renny, Trina, and Alys was more interesting than actually participating in it. Meanwhile, it gave him the chance to scan the rest of the room, and wonder why no one was looking back.

To Ruben, "Welcome to the table. I'm pleased to meet you."
To Alys, "That was an interesting game you created. I'd love to play it with more people. It reminds me of a certain shadow I once visited; the whole thing was one large casino."

"Created? Well, I did have to make a few adaptions to match your deck, but I hardly think that counts."
Alys turns towards Osmund. "So, Osmund. You're the only one here who wasn't chosen by Dworkin - I must admit, I'm curious; what brings you to Amber?"

Osmund winces and looks shifty.. He simply says "It's real." Thankfully, he is saved by the arrival of dinner.
A small group of waiters enter the room with large appetizer plates. Filled with an assortment of sushi and sashimi, clams, crab-cakes, shrimp cocktail and other seafood and similar plates, they are clearly there to highlight the amazing and plentiful ocean that surrounds Amber. For those of you who are hungry, pace yourself. Anyone who'se been around for a while (or if you want, a NPC noble can point this out) knows that the dinner is 4 courses. (Appetizers, Meat/Stew, Salad/veggies, and desserts.)
Accompanying each place setting are a number of spider-silk bags, sized for a slightly oversized deck of playing / tarot cards. They are labelled with names of the PCs and NPCs and are dyed a pleasing color (or pattern) to the person they're intended for. Inside Each contains a trump deck. Each contains the 19 cards listed (although if anyone joins the game, a 20th card might be retconned in) and are slightly cool to the touch (not unexpected considering it's the middle of winter). Any more experimenting, you'll need to do in game.
(Osmund has no deck for him.)

Dinner would be one thing - but the arrival of the trump decks completely redirects Alys' attention away from Osmund. She flips through the cards once, before focusing her attention in on one card in particular. Those across the table from her (Trina, and perhaps Osmund and Ruben) don't have a good view, but Renny could probably - if she cares - get at least a brief glance at all the cards in the deck, and note which card Alys has chosen to examine more carefully. (The card in question is Alys' own; the nine of coins.)

Once there is a break in the food & card serving, Renny picks up the thread of Osmund's conversation. "How do you know it's real?"
Then her curiosity gets the better of her, and while doing her best to keep paying attention to Osmund, she peeks inside her bag.

Osmund's eyes get a little wide. He nervously looks over his shoulder before answering. "I can't erase it."

That was enough to break through Ruben's detached exterior, and he stared intently at Osmund for more than a minute whule he tried to assess the meaning of his statement. Ruben's initial reaction was to regard the talk of "erasing" as a threat, but that soon cooled. Perhaps more the comment of a storyteller - a creator, and reshaper of worlds?
Ruben kept watching the nervous man as he reached for a plate of the expertly cut sushi.

Renny's eyes go wide at Osmund's comment, and she seems to be at a momentary loss for words. Finally she says "I've got to say I'm glad to hear that. There are places you can erase?"

"They are shadows, remove the light source, or let it touch real darkness. The whole world can collapse... My world was broken into pieces and put back together by Pich." He shivers and pulls his fet up onto the chair, they're larger than you might expect for his size. "Fractures, but there's none here."
