07.12f: Meeting on the Castle

"Hmmm, yes," says Harrune. "For those who have not heard yet, I went on a hellride to find this 'god' of Lane's." Harrune recaps the journey and the previous discussion about it.

"I have mentioned it to Dworkin. He seemed unconcerned, but Dworkin being Dworkin that could mean anything. Spellbinder is not here right now as he is out distracting Lane for us. So that is the situation as it stands at the moment. Does anyone have an thoughts, questions, comments, ideas?"

[Wyvern]

Alys listens to Harrune, and then comments, "Interesting. I have to agree with Dworkin, now; this is no longer a truly serious threat. It was, for a brief time, of course; had it struck immediately after revealing itself, it could have killed an unwary Amberite. Maybe two. But as it is..."

She turns back to Darnell, "Yes. This does resemble something from Chaos: specifically, any number of cautionary tales about the folly of opposing the ruling clan, no matter how mighty a sorcerous weapon one might have created. Such a thing as this could easily be destroyed by a single inexperienced initiate of the Logrus; all the might it can bring forth is as nothing against a Greater Power."

"Of course, Pattern is... more subtle than Logrus, and I do not know of a way to bring it into direct opposition against Hivers. So I doubt we could simply send a single warrior against it and call it done."

"Agreed. A single warrior would be unlikely to triumph. Pattern can be a formidable defense. I know that Rasanam has been exploring the limits of that, and I have dabbled in that as well. We have not used Pattern directly as a weapon, but it is powerful when used indirectly. We can use it find weapons to use against this enemy at need, as I used it to find to find its center."

"The question I would like an answer to is whether we can find a way to peacefully coexist. I would prefer a friend to an enemy if possible."

[Wyvern]

Alys shrugs. "Given that Hivers has attacked us on every occasion when it has shown itself directly, I am not sure I would hold out too much hope of peaceful co-existence. Still, if that is what people would prefer to do...?"

The question is clearly aimed at people other than Harrune, since he's already made his wishes clear.

[Joshua]

Darnell will observe, "Now that we know it is manifesting directly. Perhaps we should avoid telling it that it isn't talking to us directly*?"

Oberon will also state, "Spellbinder is distracting Lane. It's possible we managed to prevent him from getting a message from this thing. We could attempt to talk to it through the phone, or through Lane himself. Or send a message at least."

[Wyvern]

"Even if you are correct that it has been... inadvertently insulted by the assumption that it had a physical body one could directly converse with, I would point out that it attacked both me and Aibne before any such insult had been delivered."

Cameron has quietly appeared at the entrance part-way through the discussion, though still hasn't spoken up. His encounter at the castle left him a little... gooey* ... so he went to change before reporting in. He doesn't have much to add to the discussion, but will nod to anyone who acknowledges his presence.

"I would say 'That we know of.' but you are right. Still, it may believe we are the newcomers, or it may not have seen a fellow predator before. To it, we may look like bacteria." Darnell will offer. "Do we believe it's worth allying with?"

[ShadowOfPreservation]

"If this entity is as powerful as Harrune says, I think it's worth investigating if it can be negotiated with. There's bigger threats out there, things we've discussed preparing for, so if we can use this opportunity to secure an ally it's probably worth it. That being said, it's been pretty rash and aggressive in its actions so far so I don't hold high hopes." Lyra looks to Oberon as she continues, "I'm not really sure which of those options has the best chance of success. I think it'd be worth getting Spellbinder's opinion before we make a decision. He might have a better take on if Lane would be an effective emissary."

Under her breath she mumbles, "personally this whole thing creeps me out..."

Rasanam nods in agreement, and pauses his sketching to put a comforting arm around his wife.
