07.11: Thursday Morning

Post by Joshua »

(OOC: New XP total posted. It seemed to me that most pcs were wrapping things up in the Ht'Gon events. Feel free to finish up stuff that happens that night if it's important. New stuff in bold, otherwise, it's almost the same festival that started on day 1.)

Thursday morning brings another fresh round of snow*, leaving a gleaming winter landscape.

Still going strong**, on the very large grounds of Castle Amber is a full pavilion-style festival. Dozens of games of skill and strength are set up as well as countless shops and food stalls. Fennel cake, popcorn, as well as various foods from 100 other cities are offered. (Cotton Candy is making a repeat appearance from last year.)
The castle itself is on display, with the stone polished to a gleaming white that makes the snow seem ever so slightly dirty. Tours, short inexpensive ones, as well as more extravagant ones (for a higher price) are offered by the castle staff.

A small amphitheater is performing Shakespeare in the Snow, the story of A Mid-Winter's Night Dream, told with snowball fights and the dumping of snow down tunics. (A disturbingly gothic mix of light hearted fun with dark themed undertones. Which is actually what the play is to begin with.)
New: Oberon is playing himself in the play.

There are many other nooks that can be found if you look. (Ask if it's here, it probably is. Or nearby.)
There is a small pond currently with free-skating and regular carriages to and from the city. There is a small competition schedules for the afternoon, but the major skating stuff happens later in the week. There's also the Junior skate-joust, for the kids.

New: The soirée at Tir-Na Nog'th is the smallest of the festivities. Also, since the castle doesn't exist until shortly after 5pm, there is minimal preparation being done at the moment. There is less fighting and arguments over who is invited as a lot of people are more than a little freaked out about the possibility of the castle vanishing around them. Also, the schedule is mostly card and board games... That being said, there's rumors that the newcomers to Tir-Na are going all out with some magic wonders.
Unless someone stopped him, Ossian was in the castle when it vanished that morning and is not available today.
__________
*: Almost like someone with weather control is making sure there's a perfect winter scene as the start of each day...
**: It's like this all week actually.

One thing worth noting that happened overnight: Rasanam went through his deck and informed everyone of the situation with Lane and his 'god'. Or at least, everyone he wasn't certain had already gotten the message.

This means, in no particular order:
The Raven (who already knows, but Rasanam doesn't know that.)
Ossian
Darnell
Aibne
Cameron
Morgana
Quin
Rolf, Richard, Will
...And, last but certainly not least, Dworkin.

Note that the list is missing Oberon and Spellbinder, as I expect they'll end up having been informed in this thread.

If any of these trump calls seem likely to be worth actually writing up, feel free to toss me a PM, or make a thread, or whatever.

For the record, Alys' plans for the day are a somewhat nebulous 'work on preparation for training guards'. In short, she's available (albeit busy), should anyone wish to contact her or involve her in other escapades.
(Edit: There's one other thing on her list: finding a language tutor for Endros - someone that speaks both draconic and Thari. Perhaps one of the more D&D-styled kobolds?)

One particular thing that's likely to be on her to-do list is heading around the city and shutting down groups that are just street gangs (like the group Spellbinder bested the previous evening); if there's not even a pretension of being for the good of the populace (or if there's pretense and clearly nothing more than that), then Alys will find space for them in either the castle's dungeons or the depths of Ht'gon. ...Or, perhaps, whatever work groups are needed for things like digging the ditch Spellbinder seems to be planning?*

That said, she is trying to be relatively nice about it; avoiding killing people, allowing groups to decide they'd like to have a sudden change of heart (perhaps under different leadership)... though in that case, she'll also set specific community-improvement goals and tasks that, if not accomplished by some reasonable** deadline, will result in the group being shut down regardless.

_____
* I'm told that Spellbinder actually intends to use magic for this. Still, I'm sure something useful can be found for them to do...
** Note that Alys' definition of "reasonable" means "doable but certainly not easy". Groups that don't buckle down and get to work starting more or less now won't meet the deadlines. Note also that they are explicitly not allowed to press-gang other people into helping, and any group that tries to take the "easy way out" will find Alys turning up again in short order. Not upset, really, but... disappointed.

Cameron's plans for the day are similarly nebulous like Alys's - After a long night discussing theology and history with Min, Cameron will be up early to start doing a more complete survey of the orc camp and the lands around it. He has a workshop/craftwerks to construct, and a place to live out with the orcs if he is to be their voice. His primary focus will be identifying drainage, water sources, local high points or locations with good wind, and places he can draw coal, ore and various construction stone (granite, marble, basalt, limestone, etc.) from.

With luck, he'll have begun clearing the space for his home or workshop by mid-afternoon, though if he doesn't find a suitable site he'll have at least cleared out a space with a bare rock face and pounded it flat using the Star, then start inscribing a map of the surrounding area so he has a workspace to show the ideas he's working with.

Harrune plans for the day so far are equally nebulous. He will be sleeping in late to recover from his walk of Amber's Pattern. After that he'll be helping to make sure that things are ready to go for the evening festivities. If anyone wishes to find him, he can be found bustling around easily enough.

Actually, there is one probably scene-worthy thing on Alys' agenda: a chat with Osmund on the topic of shapeshifting and countermeasures. Other Amberites (most likely Cameron) are welcome to show up, of course.

Change of plans for Harrune. After the Pattern walk he and Alaror Trump back to the World Tree. In the morning Alaror Trumps back to Amber while Harrune takes a roundabout route.

Since things are wrapping up in other places, I'll post things here. Please use 07.12 for after noon stuff.

There's a large group returning from a trip through the woods.

Harrune and Spellbinder have plans in mind for Father-Confessor Lane.

And the rescue of Rogbar is complete.

Now Afternoon:

Spellbinder is talking to Father-Confessor Lane.

The Shadow Striders are making their way back. Aibne, Alys, Ch'talo are there, and likely Cameron and Osmund. (might have sub-threads).

A large pack just trumped to the docks (from the woods), but I'm going to hold off until that starts to break up into individual threads before Quin intercepts anyone.

Quin, as mentioned, is looking for PCs.

Oberon is expecting people to arrive and ask him questions, perhaps with Harrune.

Dworkin... huh, no idea where he is. Probably already knows about what's going on. Other NPCs are where we left them. It's around 1pm or so... if that matters. Plenty of time for the festivities to begin. Moonrise is about 5:15pm today, if it matters and it is a full moon. The festivities are still planned, and Ossian should exist again at about 5:03pm.

After leaving the group at the docks, Caelund heads towards the middle-class neighborhoods, and will see about conducting his normal business in the city. At some point throughout the early afternoon, he will see about treating his injury and preparing for his new and unexpected invitation to socialize with the local power-base. Aside from those two points in particular, Caelund is generally out and about in the streets of the City, and could probably be located with a bit of deliberate effort.
