07.01i: The Seventh Winter (Table in the Corner)

Lyra leans over and gives him a quick kiss "Aww...thanks. You're not so bad looking yourself", she replies with a grin. Lyra composes herself a bit, not wanting to make the Ogre only one seat over uncomfortable. She shuffles through the cards some more, pulling Morgana's. Leaning over towards her, she remarks, "I guess it's official now. Congratulations!"

[Joshua]

Morgana will nod. "That's good to know. I'm kind of surprised the rumors were true this time. He's been promising this kind of statement for a while." She flips her card over in her hands. "I'm almost afraid to break these things. Unless... Uh... Do you know if these are ... uh... full trump?" She will ask Rasanam.

[Rasanam]

Rasanam looks at the card more closely. "I think so? I wouldn't expect Dworkin to go for half-measures..."

Lyra will sense a flicker of contact as Rasanam focuses on the card in his hand - and then he stops concentrating and the mental presence fades. "I think so. And definitely not just a sketch. So I wouldn't worry too much about damaging them."

A dazed looking Harrune wanders up to the table. He suddenly become somewhat aware of his surroundings. "Morgana, Lyra, Rasanam...would you mind I joined you? I would like to talk to Morgana for a few minutes."

Lyra smiles up at Harrune. "We wouldn't mind at all! Have a seat if you'd like. And, oh! I made this for you!" Lyra holds out the sketch she made of Harrune. The parchment has a rather detailed charcoal sketch of the Cani striding regally across the page; traveling from a village scene, the sky a treetop canopy far above, and into the ballroom of castle Amber.

[Joshua]

Morgana will nod to Harrune. "If you need to talk in private we can... or... if you'd like... here is fine for me. We can save the really sensitive stuff for after dessert."

[Rasanam]

"Of course you're welcome, Harrune," Rasanam says. Then he finishes flipping through his trump deck and adds a slightly belated, "And congratulations!"

"Thank you Lyra, it's beautiful."

"Thank you Rasanam. I'm still trying to sort out what it all means. It comes a a total surprise. I doubted Dworkin would choose leader, and even if he did I would have expected Ossian to be the..." Harrune ears begin to droop. "Ossian..." He quickly shuffles through the cards until he finds Ossian's. He then looks in Ossian's direction. "Oh dear. This is going to be a problem."

"A problem?" Lyra asks as she glances over at Ossian who clearly looks unhappy. "He does look a bit...disgruntled. You mean he wanted to rule Tir-Na Nog'th..." Lyra's expression sobers a bit as she looks about the room, flipping through the cards of the Coins suit and wondering how many gathered here may be similarly upset with what their gift revealed.

"If you knew Ossian as well as I do then you would see that he is far beyond merely 'disgruntled'. 'Furious' is probably closer to the mark, but he is good at hiding it. I doubt most of the people in the room would even begin to guess."

"He more than wanted to rule, he expected to. Before dinner we were discussing the rumors that Dworkin might choose leaders. Ossian was making sure that I would support him once he was chosen. The wasn't how he phrased it, but I know him well enough for the intent to be clear. While I think he appreciates what I've done for Tir'na Ng'oth, and Amber in general, he has never really seen me as an equal. He has seen me as...a commoner...a good natured bumpkin. To see me elevated about him will surely rankle. I never sought this, but I doubt he will see it that way...at least for now."
