07.02: Sufficiently Advanced

[Joshua]

Almost in response, Murphy's shovel hits something wooden with a hollow thump. "I think we're here. There was a note of a small chest and this should be the last of it." He looks between everyone, "It might be heavy..."

(The chest is about a foot by 4 inches wide by 6 deep. it's heavy, but no one with a strength of Amber will have any trouble moving it.)

Murphy shakes his head. "Then what?

Oberon smiles, "Nuall has never seen a telephone, or a gun for that matter. I wanted to get him a little used to technology. Not sure what Solten has seen."

The match definitely had some interesting twists and turns as Solten and Sadie alternately held back and got more into it. Equally surprised by the return speech in his head, and Sadie's reversal on him, Solten lays on his back for a moment, breathing hard, almost panting. This time realizing something else was going on, he responds intentionally telepathically: "Apparently so... Cool!"

He listens silently as she responds to Nuall's question, then attempts a thought to Nuall: "Can you hear me, Nuall? Did you hear anything Sadie just said?" Assuming an affirmative response to at least the former, "I should have expected as much after the Trump card experiments, but this is still really cool!"

Out loud, he says to Nuall "Apparently, her response is 'Yes'." He shakes his head, trying to shake away some confusion.

To Murphy: "Well, I was certain I was human before today, but after today's adventures so far I wouldn't be too surprised to find out otherwise." He grins again. "Might be interesting! I'll have to avoid this 'dissection' process as well... That sounds distinctly uncomfortable."

((As it is now evident that neither of us had much, if any, prior experience in telepathy, it is likely that others with Amber skill could overhear. Though I do not know the details on how that works.))

When the chest is uncovered, Solten replies "Suffice it to say, I'm happy to see whatever more of these oddities you care to show us. You seem to know how to go straight to the interesting stuff."

(OOC: Telepathy is touch only. Only Solten and Sadie can talk, and only in direct contact. I thought you relayed the message.)

Nuall lifts the box fairly easily up and sets it on the ground by the hole. Then he dexterously climbs out himself. He looks down at himself and frowns. "It will take much work to shine the boots properly again and I fear the pants may be stained beyond salvage. Ah well, nothing in life comes without a cost."

"I fear the box was lighter than you expect friend Murphy. I hope that what you were seeking is truly in it. Perhaps we should open and ascertain the truth?"

Nuall is clearly oblivious to Solten's attempt at telepathic communication and he brushes off his hands and begins to dress again.

(OCC: Nuall has not tested his strength since arriving in Amber and is unaware of his limits as yet. The box is as heavy as Joshua said, but since Nuall is Low Ranked in Strength he judges it to be lighter than it truly is.)

(Other OCC: I recall Sadie saying that she was speaking via Solten, so I had assumed he was relaying as well. That's the way it goes in a game like this: some times the message will get garbled along the way. This is a minor detail either way and really doesn't make a difference in the end. The info all gets through one way or the other. ).

[Sadie]

Sadie to Solten: "Murphey has both a gun and a phone, plus other interesting gadgets. He can take you all to a firing range where you can see guns in action. Maybe even run you through a typical scenario so you can really see how lethal and dangerous a gun can be. Trust me when I say being shot is far from a pleasant experience."

[Joshua]

Murphy looks and blinks. "That's got to weight 50 pounds at least, maybe more." He slowly srambles out of the hole and starts filling it in. "I guess if it's just us, I can see about getting into the police trainer. Maybe run through a scenario with Sadie one last time..."

[Sadie]

Sadie wags tail slightly with a look somewhere between happy and sad.

((No worries about the disconnect, it doesn't much change my post since I confirmed to Nuall vocally anyway. Me and my character both learned that telepathy isn't quite so simple as thinking to someone. At least unless you use the cards...))
After shaking off the initial confusion and failing to speak to Nuall telepathically, he decides there's no point in trying to be circumspect on the matter. "Again, after tonight, I shouldn't be surprised, but apparently I can talk to Sadie... in my head. And she can talk back." He repeats her second statement, about the guns.

He looks up at Sadie, who's now laying on top of him, obviously in no hurry to get up. "It seems there's a lot more than luck involved in our meeting you here. You are quite the exceptional creature."

[Sadie]

To Solten: "I've never been able to talk before. How'd you do that? Also we should..." contact breaks as she steps off him.

Solten looks questioningly at Sadie when the connection breaks and she doesn't continue speaking. He attempts to ask her "Should what?" but doesn't get a reply.

((Note: Solten was assuming that it was something special about Sadie that enabled the telepathy, since no one else could hear it.))
