Invisibly, Willoughby glides towards Michael, and gazes out across the roof, somberly assessing the oncoming battle. "Strike the first serpent that comes within range with a coordinated volley, Michael. They are our most dangerous foes, in this fight. I will remain here, and observe, until I am needed. We can only hope that this plan succeeds."

Michael nods, not even looking back at you. "If they stay there for a few more minutes, we may be able to try the ballista on them."

And, indeed, neither serpents nor army show any immediate sign of moving. The serpents have formed a circle around an empty patch of ground, and seem to be doing something - perhaps some kind of magical ritual.

Ametrine flies over the rampart walls at full speed, using the wand on the serpents encircling the empty patch of ground as he heads straight for them.

Also roaring. It's important to roar while flying toward your enemies at full speed.

The army ignores Ametrine (how rude of them!) until he starts roaring. That gets the orcs' attention. Those that have ranged weapons open fire, but even the shots that hit merely bounce off.

The serpents note your presence, but seem more interested in whatever ritual they're doing than in one small yellow dragon.

Activating the rod causes a faint blue-white glow to coalesce around the far end. Apparently this is not a ranged weapon...

Incorrectly assuming that it was long-ranged, Ametrine's new strategy is to continue roaring and press the button on the wand while the other side is against a serpent.

As the serpents are more or less stationary doing whatever it is that they're doing, this is a relatively simple plan to implement.

There's no visible effect from doing so, but you have enough understanding of the magic involved to be able to tell that actually did a decent amount of damage.

On the minus side, you now have the full and undivided attention of all three of the creatures. One of them even manages to land a solid hit on you, its claws actually (gasp) drawing blood. Of course, the wound heals a few seconds later, but still... that hurt!

Ametrine howls at the unfamiliarity of pain, then decides to keep using the wand on the serpent that injured it before going after the rest.

The serpent that hit you continues to attack with tooth and claw, succeeding in landing a few more painful (but largely ineffective) blows. Perhaps it'd have better luck attacking if it wasn't so busy trying to avoid your hits...

The other two stay back from the fight, focusing on some as yet unrealized magical effect.

The orcs, for their part, gleefully charge in to join the melee, but add little more than confusion.

Seeing the other lizards still working on the spell, Ametrine takes a moment to blast them with the crazy gas breath weapon again, then goes back to stabbing the current serpent with the wand.

Willoughby waits patiently for the siege weapons to be loaded and aimed. Precision is of great importance, in this first volley. Insofar as possible, the catapults and ballistae must be directed towards a single demon. With Ametrine providing a distraction, Willoughby is confident that he will have the necessary time.

When all is ready, Willoughby whispers a suggestion to Michael: "I believe we should signal Ametrine to retreat, and fire." He hopes that Ametrine will notice the red and yellow semaphore flags...
