07.08f: New Arrivals

Post by Jocas »

Down by the docks, there's a bit of a commotion - a mid sized warship has come cruising in, a three-masted metal-hulled vessel armed with several ballistae, and with a rippling of water below its bow that tells of the presence of an underwater ram. The flag it flies shows a silver hammer (decorating with intricate swirling knotwork) on a dark blue background - Jocas' symbol, which the dockworkers have likely only seen in record books. (Jocas was one of the first group to walk the Pattern... and hasn't been back to Amber since.)

A single boat heads out to meet the ship, carrying a pilot to handle docking - and clearly set up to convey VIP visitors back to the docks more quickly than the warship can manage. Jocas stands at the railing of his ship, and looks over the approaching boat. At the sight of a blue and green jester suit, he frowns momentarily, before calling down, "Quin, wasn't it? How have you been?"

Standing near Jocas is Darmascus Tor'Salen a powerful and regal looking hobgoblin, and slightly behind him and to his right is the snake lady Lanara. Darmascus is wearing some light but decorative armor, while clearly designed to be functional, it is also designed to function as a symbol of royalty.

He also has, to anyone who may notice, a very nice shield with prominently displayed (but yet to be determined*) heraldry upon it that may or may not be recognizable to certain parties. Despite the painted on heraldry the shield, heraldry included, seems to have a glossy perfect sheen. There is no sign of dent, scrape, or even filth of any kind upon it.

On his hip is a large falchion of strange but intricate and deadly design, the sword's pommel resembles that of the black knight chess piece (Colored a dark dried blood red) with the head facing the opposite direction of the curve of the blade while the "crossgaurd" has the appearance of a large black Go piece, the grip itself is patterned in squares that start at the crossguard all the same tan color resembling what one might see on a Go board but slowly gains dark dried blood colored squares randomly spattered along it as it heads down towards the pommel eventually acquiring a full checkered pattern by the time it reaches the pommel with the dried blood red as the dark color and the tan as the light color. The eyes of the knight seems to be some kind of dark amethyst with a strange glow that seems to bring about feelings of weakness and inferiority the longer you stare into them. The feeling is however not really very strong and simply not staring into them directly is enough to make it pass completely. The swords sheath is the color of dried blood with etchings in a strange foreign language that seems to glow a slight purplish color similar to the eyes of the knight but without the feelings associated with them. It may be due to not being used to the symbols, but at times if one looks back at the sheath it seems as if the symbols have changed slightly.

* Working on doing it right.

Quin doesn't wait for the lines to be tossed up, instead choosing to climb the side of the warship directly. Barnacle suckers fade back into his normal hands as he comes over the side. "Yes. good to see you again Jocas. Your timing is... well, could be worse. Dworkin will be glad that you have returned. It is ... the seventh year, and the fourth week-long celebration... You missed the Rebma ball and Amber's dinner, but Ht'Gon still has some festivities..." He will graciously offer his now-human hand to shake before nodding to the others.

"Who have you brought?"

Jocas will shake the proffered hand, seemingly unperturbed by the notion that he's been gone years instead of centuries. Then he runs through introductions. "Darmascus Tor'Salen," he gestures to Tor's shield, "Son of Alinara. And his companion, Lanara."

"And this is my wife, Celeste."
Celeste curtsies politely, adding "A pleasure to meet you, Quin."

Tor nods his head slightly.

Lanara: "A pleasure I'm sure."

"Under the sign of truce I hope." Quin will look at the naga a moment... before turning to the dark knight, "You will forgive us, we had an attempt on Amber yesterday. Still, they do not appear to be from there. Dworkin will want to double check... Unless you wish to vouch for them Jocas... I can explain a little of what happened while we dock, or as we ferry ahead..."

Jocas nods. "I'd assumed Dworkin would wish to speak to him anyway; so, certainly, make your explanations."

"Although... if there was an attack, perhaps I should put a little more effort into arming myself; I'd assumed this would be a peaceful visit."

Lanara gives a creepy "Hi" smile when Quin looks her over. Basically saying "Yes, I'm a naga, apparently you have some inkling of an idea at least of what that means. Move on."

Tor: "No apology needed. I would expect no less, and perhaps think less if you did otherwise. As for this attempt upon Amber, I would very much like to hear what you are willing to discuss. As for Jocas vouching for us, that is unnecessary. For one I wish to meet this Dworkin, and this should expedite that meeting, and two, I would not ask another besides myself vouch for my companion."

Which is followed by a subtle look from Lanara (who is behind Tor by the way) that says quite simply. "Tor you are an asshole." Both a statement of endearment and hostility at the same time.

"You may need to wait, there is something going on... it should only be a few hours. If you don't mind. Jocas, you're welcome to attend, but... it was some kind of possessive entity. I think the host exploded at the end, but the entity is still out there." Quin will shake his head. "I don't think there's an immediate danger though. And we apparently have a way to communicate with it should we choose."

Tor: "I can be patient. Though on the matter of the entity, did it show concern for the well being of it's host or treat it as one insignificant pawn of many? Did the union seem mutually chosen and thus more a symbiotic union, or did it seem more parasitic and forced and one sided in nature. How did the host being seem to view the possessing entity, was it friend, ally, god, curse? If any communication occurred with the entity afterward through your source, did the being make demands, ask for demands, or make any unusual claims or references? Anything to indicate how it viewed the event that transpired would be of great benefit. Before the event did the host have any interactions with any of your court? State any personal goals or desires or make any claims or offers to help in any way?"

Lanara basically ignoring Tor's questioning: "You did mention some kind of events going on, some festivities or some such. Are you sure there is no one who could say escort us while we peruse what the festivities have to offer? It would be much more preferable to sitting idly. If not can you at least inform us what types of festivities we are missing out on?"
