Were-Force

Post by Joshua »

"So, kids love werewolves and villains, so I have come up with a concept for a villain-team. They have the standard powers: fire, ice, etc.. but with a twist. They're all werewolves!"
".... That's brilliant!"

It wasn't. Were-Force lasted about 15 issues (in the 80s) and was aborted halfway through its second story-arc. Still, some of the members have shown up in other places. For the record, Were-Force was more a mercenary company than an actual villain group.

Firefang: The Atomic Wolf
The defacto leader of were-force, Firefang was the result of a werewolf being mutated by the fallout of a nuclear test.
As a human, he's horribly scared by the atomic fire. Even in human form he can project radioactive flame from his hands and eyes. The writers decreed that whatever form of radiation he used had a half-life measured in minutes.
His fur was matted and mangy, in some cases replaced by atomic fire. His claws have rotted out, replaced by what appear to be mini-blowtorches. His power over radiation extends to absorbing it and being unaffected by it.
Real name: Harhas Zeeb

Frostbite: the Winter Wolf
She was the most popular of the were-force... which isn't saying all that much. Her ice powers and white-hair graced over half of the covers of the initial run. In modern incarnations, she's often seen as a reformed villain performing community service as an auxiliary member of a team.

Lockjaw: The Martial Artist
A young boxer, this team member never made it out of the initial run after concern over potential copyright issues.

Eclipse: The Mystic Wolf
A shaman, and not a true werewolf, Eclipse's main power was teleportation. He could shunt in short steps fairly simply, or could concentrate to teleport himself and his team a great distance. Beyond that, his shamanic powers consisted of shapeshifting into a wolf and whatever the plot actually needed.

Furbot: The Mechanical Wolf
Not a true werewolf, or even alive, Furbot was built by CHESS as a method to replace animals. It was repurposed in the first issue to be a loyal defender of the team through an argument that being a team-player would allow it to better teach in the future.
Furbot was the second-most popular member of the team. Several attempts were made to reboot the character, but most were terrible failures.
