Advancement

Post by Joshua »

Per the book, 1 xp is given per session for: Automatic, Danger, Roleplaying, Success, and Wisdom
  • 1 'Session' is a major thread. Hopefully, we'll figure it out. While only people who participate (not simply cameo) in the thread will get xp, the goal is to have multiple threads going so that everyone is involved in something.
  • Overall, the goal is 3-ish xp per major thread.
  • As this is a Victorian-ish setting, Danger can include potential scandal.
  • Roleplaying is assumed, it's regular on-time posts that keep the game going.
  • Success is really advancing plot. It's okay to fail, so long as you move ahead.
  • Wisdom is learning in this game. So, the focus there will be uncovering secrets.
There's a small bonus for finishing plots and such. Maybe 2 - 4 depending on the depth of the plot. The goal, again, is to have multiple plots that different groups can be working on.

League of Cthulhu adds Eldritch Experience. (Abbreviated ep here.) This may only be spent on Elder Lore and only Eldritch XP may be spent on Elder Lore. XP is awarded for:
  • Exposure: An optional 1 ep for running into mythos things at the end of an adventure/plot.
  • Forbidden Tomes: Grant ep equal to their mythos rating on a full read, not skimming. Most are rated 2 - 6.
  • Madness: Dropping to 0 sanity as a result of a mythos encounter may grant one. Roll a die, success grants 1 ep.

Catch-up Experience

Since threads aren't all the same length, and it's possible to make starting characters with different levels of xp, I offer Catch-up experience, to get people back on track in a few threads.

For every 15 xp below the lead character you are, you get +1 xp up to double the xp awarded. This includes both xp from threads as well as the plot bonus xp.

Bonus ep is not given. Eldritch Experience is more of a plot reward anyhow.
