Astaria is an idyllic land of rolling plains and towering castles. Originally plagued by clockwork giants left over from the Great War, but most of these have been shut down by Oberon. Astaria, and by extension its inhabitants, are generally considered to be fairly boring. Useful (most of the food supplies of the core realms are grown here), dependable, but boring. This is in part due to Astaria's status as one of the first realms to be linked to the Nexus; most of its obvious problems (like those clockwork giants) have been resolved in the past few hundred years. It's also partly due to the fact that Astaria's time ran fast since the Great War - the chaos and horror of that time are a distant memory, here; fables and legends told to children but not really believed. However, beneath its friendly exterior, Astaria holds a dark secret: Under each and every one of its castles, there lies a sprawling necropolis. Millions of corpses are interred in these, some dating all the way back to the Great War itself. And not all of the dead sleep easily... Zombies are common. Other, stronger forms of the once-living less so - but still present. And Astaria holds the highest concentration of shadow cultists of any of the core realms. |
