Continued from Chapter XIII.

On the day that Mr. Willoughby and Ametrine reach Greenspring, it is raining. Hard. The day is cold, and wet, and windy, and shows no particular sign of getting any better any time soon.

The immediate upshot of this is that entry into the city is somewhat more rapid than usual; fewer people are willing to wait in line, and the guards are grumpy and inattentive.

Mr. Willoughby's umbrella is black and broad, more than large enough to accommodate the yellow dragon perched on his shoulder and strong enough to withstand the wind. Looking perfectly nonchalant, he fishes his papers out of the pocket of his grey woolen coat and hands them to the city guard.

The guard barely glances at it before grunting and waving you in.

Once beyond the gates, Willoughby seeks out eaves of some kind, so as to examine his map of Greenspring without losing it to the wind. He determines a route to the Wizard's Academy, memorizes it, folds the map and puts it away, and sets off for the Academy with as much cheer as the weather and his profession will allow.

Impressed by Mr. Willoughby's skill at nonchalance when a yellow dragon is sitting on his shoulder, Ametrine decides to help not draw attention to himself by trying to stay quiet.

Ametrine continues to take in the sights of the city when one breaks his silence.

"Mr. Willougby, why does Maya have wanted posters of herself?"

Startled (but only because nobody but Ametrine is there to see it), Willoughby examines one such poster, hoping to find an answer to Ametrine's query.

It's a wanted poster for Maya, posted by the city guard - something about assaulting one of the Kingsguard. Reward for information leading to her capture is posted at two hundred platinum; actually bringing her in (dead or alive) is "open to negotiation," though adventurers are advised that she is "armed and dangerous."

"Oh dear," remarks Willoughby. "I see that she is armed now, as well. And worth a great deal of money, it seems. Nonetheless, Maya is a capable girl; I'm sure she will comport herself admirably. Do you think we should see her again, Ametrine? I think perhaps I shall take care of my business with the Wizard's Academy first."

As the pair stroll through the cobbled streets of Greenspring, Willoughby provides a sort of informal tour, occasionally gesturing at important landmarks with his cane. It's a slightly difficult thing to do, when one is holding an umbrella.

The sights of Greenspring are many and varied. And wet, at least today.

The temple district, featuring towers set with bells, and then more bells, sounding in a constant sussuruss of chiming.

The river itself, criss-crossed by bridges ranging from a few feet wide to vast expanses featuring decorative gardens and enough room to drive four wagons across at once.

The old Aran estate - now converted into ye olde clock & weasel shop.

A trio of children, chasing a lean grey cat.

And, finally, the Academy iself, a massive edifice of black stone draped in green ivy, and set with clocks. Except that none of these clocks track mere conventional time; one seems to track the paths of the three moons; another oscillates wildly amongst arcane symbols; a third simply seems to always point directly at Ametrine.

Ametrine returns to the clock and weasel shop, having insufficient quantities of each, and begins to inspect their wares.
