07.08d: Pattern vs The Shapeshifting Demon of Chaos

Post by Joshua »

(OOC: This thread is intended for the actual trial and interrogation of Oagthack, for side conversations please make new threads. I hope people can be active again. Side threads will be listed here, and can include conversations in the hour before the trial. Since Odin is likely to be available, as will be Oagthack.)

Happening at same time:
Intrigue arcane

The main ballroom has been converted to a makeshift courtroom. The three thrones has been replaced with a judge's bench, complete with witness stand, as four fireplaces warm the room. (OOC: Yes, the number of fireplaces is correct in each description.)

After about half an hour, Sadie and Solten arrive, the former leaning on the latter, and take seats - allowing Sadie a chance to rest after walking the Pattern. (OOC: Priscilla may or may not be present, depending on Sadie's orders.)

It takes another twenty minutes for anyone else to show - the next arrivals are Rolph, Richard, and Will, the three guard-captains of the Amber Castle guard, escorting Odin. (Not in that "you are a prisoner" way, but in the "you are an important person deserving of an honor guard and definitely not a prisoner, really, we mean it" sort of way.) The guards take up station at the back of the room, and Odin heads forward to talk to Sadie and Solten.

"I saw you two at the ball last night. How was your evening?"

Sadie: "It was very eventful to say the least. But then again, I don't think a second can go buy these days without a multitude of world shattering things happening around me." Smiles a bit weakly still tired from her stroll around the pattern.

(Priscilla is currently present still in her suit, and being all business like with a clip board, some paper, a pencil and a strange sudden penchant for taking notes. Whether this is from Sadie's orders or she's gaining some strange pleasure from this activity is anyone's guess. Either way, if the court needs someone to take notes it's got someone. Then of course if it doesn't, well it has one anyway.)
Sadie - "You have the right to remain silent.
Anything you say or do can and will be held against you in a court of law..."

"You get used to it. At least here it isn't assassinations." Odin will offer... as if that's a comfort. "Well, it is good to meet you. Dworkin has this annoying habit of setting things up without paying attention to the initial shock."

"So since the trial hasn't started yet. What's your opinion on last nights events and Oagthac's part in it?"

"Not really sure. I guess he could have been attempting to secure a quick escape from Amber... That is the only thing that makes sense to me." He shrugs. "I don't like the idea he was working with an unknown. It means he doesn't trust me."

"Everyone else seems to be convinced that's the case. I, however, remain unconvinced. A lot of what occurred seems a bit coincidental and contrived to fit that exact scenario. I could be wrong, and it is completely possible what everyone claims is the case is in fact the case. But for starters it wasn't even Oagthack that did the overt display that caused the commotion needed."

"Second, it is claimed that he would have, but that is entirely conjecture on the others parts."

"Third the being I fought is completely capable of recognizing and adapting to an opportunity if and when it presents itself."

"Fourth, the entity did not have a very well thought out exit strategy, if it had one at all. This reeks of an opportunist that hoped to get away with it."

"Fifth, it is also somewhat clear that until the card was exposed to all the entity was not fully aware of what card it had as there were far better opportunities for it to have trumped out than when it did had it known. With what it had, it would definitely be not worth the risk of staying any longer than absolutely necessary."

"These appear to be more the actions of an entity that did not yet know what it had, was waiting for a good opportunity to examine which card it acquired away from prying eyes and decide where to go from there."

"In either case there is nothing to the case that Oagthack was working with the entity that would hold up in a court of law where I am from. All we have is conjecture without proof and are lacking anything resembling a clear motive or evidence of a conspiracy with said entity."

"The only things he is clearly guilty of is being where he was not supposed to be and impersonating a member of Amber royalty, both potentially bad in their own right mind you. It is still not conspiring with the unknown entity to commit theft of trump against a member of Amber Royalty."

"This, however, is not the courts of my home and as such, I do not know what weight conjecture actually has here. I suppose, true or not, if most of the court agrees that the conjecture is true and accurate that may be all that matters. Until proof is presented, however, I personally remain unconvinced for what worth that has."

Solten has been quiet but attentive, with an air of pride.

He responds about the ball with a conflicting grin and shudder. "Eventful is one way of putting it."

At the latest discussion, he comments "Something doesn't quite add up about this whole thing. I think we need everyone's observations put together to come up with any sound idea. As to whether hearsay matters, I suspect that's a question of how many people believe it..."

"And if you trust the telepath ripping out the information." Odin will observe simply.

"What doesn't add up?" Odin will pause, "Well, I suppose we can instead wait for the others... Don't want too many explanations without permission."

Renny arrives, takes one look at Sadie, and heads over right away. "Congratulations," she says to her. "Really takes the stuffing out of you, doesn't it?"

OOC: Sorry for disappearing off the face of the world there, got all tied up in Ambercon preparation and then Ambercon itself.
