Twill bows deep to both Willoughby and Ametrine. "I am Sir Twill, humble knight and retainer to," he indicates Kitty, "Her Imperial Majesty the Tsarina Ekaterina Alexandrovna Romanova D'vai, Holy Commander of the Monkey Armies and Potentate of the Baboon Tribes." He turns to Lauren. "She is your mother, m'Lady. Shall we set out for the capital and see if your mother arrived safely? Or return to the Greywind estate and see if she has returned?"

Ametrine scratches his head with a claw. "Lauren, your mother is a monkey?"

"Uh... I apologize. I misspoke. The monkey is the Empress. Lauren's mother is the woman we seek."

"Hm... I think it would be better to stop by Castle Greywind first. It's only a short detour away from the path to the capital, and we might learn something more. What do you think, Mr. Willougby?"

"I think that might be a very good idea. I would like to see how Jenkins is managing things, in any case."

The trip to Castle Greywind is long and mostly boring.

There are three things of note:

1) Lauren is going by the name "Arda" in her current disguise.

2) Skirrik shows up once, for about a minute - apparently he has "other places to be."

3) Flying pigs are rather clumsy creatures, altogether far too prone to converting themselves into falling pigs. This is not pleasant for either the pig or the hapless bystander.

In fact, the first sign of any sort of trouble is at the top of the pass into the Greywind fief. There is no guard on watch at the border post, and the gate sits open.

Mr. Willoughby fluidly surveys the border post and gate, inspecting them with a placid curiosity.

"So," asks Ametrine, "is the lack of anyone here a good thing, or a bad thing?" He begins to poke around the post, waiting for someone else to be the first to enter.

"It is quite unusual, Amertine, and I do not think it bodes well," remarks Willoughby. "The absence of any guards here implies that some occasion has removed them, and I'm afraid the spectrum of such occasions trends towards the negative."

Willoughby steps forward briskly and enters the interior of the border post, seeking further clues to its recent history.
