As you start to fly up, you hear the sound of footsteps heading off to your right... Odd; there's nobody visible there, and no footprints in the sand, either.

Ametrine will fly back down to investigate the footsteps. "Skirrik, is that you?" If there is no further response, he'll try to whip the sand around to find any invisible creatures.

There is no response, but the sand, once whipped up, seems to take on a life of its own, forming a whirling dust devil that spins off into a corner of the cave before dissapating. The sound of footsteps match the movements of the dust devil, and then fade out entirely as the whirling sand finally settles.

Ametrine blinks in confusion for a moment, before returning his attention to the source of light.

There's a vague "thump" noise behind you, as you head towards the top of the pyramid.

The light at the top is a brilliant golden beacon that rivals the sun for brightness - which makes discerning details difficult. Still, there is some granularity to it; it appears to be coming off of some sort of complicated set of markings etched into the top ten feet of the pyramid. Perhaps more arcane runes of some sort?

"Stop following me, you thing you!" Ametrine shouts, before looking at the source of light. Sadly, runes etched into the surface of a pyramid are difficult to take, so he decides to return to the ground floor and search for an entrance into the pyramid.

There is indeed an entrance on the far side; a grand opening set with pillars and decorated with more gnoll heiroglyphics. Well, a grand decorative promenade before a comparatively small opening, anyway - the actual entrance can't be much more than seven feet high.

Standing guard, one on either side of the door, are a pair of foul-smelling bipedal lizards armed with barbed spears.

Ametrine approaches with a smile. "Um, hello! What are you doing here? Do you work for the inn?" He'll try not to hold their odor against them.

The one on the left says, in draconic, "None shall pass."

"But we'd be interested to hear what's been going on above," adds the one on the right. "We don't get much news down here."

Ametrine switches to Draconic, and attempts to inform the two guards what he knows about currnet events - with the young dragon's skew of what is and is not important - while simultaneously trying to find out what's inside the pyramid and how he might get let in.

The strange footsteps and behavior of the sand will be brought up during the conversation, as maybe they know what it was, as will the prophecy in the gem.
