07.05c: Roughing it

Post by Brian C »

Trina Going to go to a shop and pick up a cloak so she can move around unnoticed and head to the more dangerous parts of town. She'll walk around getting the impression of different areas and then look more specifically at areas that seem run down or repressed.

There's a number of bad parts of town. Imagine a boom town as populated as early NYC.everything has been built within the last 7 years, so there are a number of slums and chanty-towns. The guards were not made with the town, so the discipline and power of the castle-guards is not seen here. The police are corrupt, and in some cases, are actual protection rackets. (Some more above the board than others.) A few PCs have worked to keep order here, so it's not falling apart, but there's a lot to be desired.

You can find a particularly bad gang-neighborhood, a poor tent-town full of people who can't find work, beggar / pickpocket central, or had to where some of the local orcs have made a "little Ht'Gon." You can also choose to get mugged. (You have enough warfare and psyche, you'll only get mugged if you allow it to happen.)

Trina will follow some of the thugs from the Police's protection rackets. She won't interfere yet, She'll simply follow them back to where they come from, observe silently and see if she can figure out who is running them.

They head back to a small meeting. As this is the bad part of town, there is a discussion of how to divy up the 'take' for the day, as well as which businesses and residences did not pony up the extra daily fee to be excluded form the lottery. Some of the discussion is on other precincts attempting to muscle in, with a brief discussion about one house that seems to be paying to two different groups for protection.

Trina will watch from the shadows and try to surreptitiously get a psychic impression on the leader. If she can she'll make a quick sketch before moving onto the other precincts. Rinse and repeat.

OOC(how much money are we talking about? Is this minor addition to pay per cut or organized crime style where they are taking ridiculous amounts. I am asking because I am trying to figure out the quickest way to fix this. I am deciding between possibly a small supplement for the police in the bad parts of town, or simply cleaning out the crooked cops.)

The money is a moderate amount for the merchants. The lottery they are discussing is only a small extra. (So, protection is $100 a week, with a $10 extra to exclude themselves from the lottery. Lottery 'winners' are subject to minor harassment to remind the others why they should pay and pay the extra.)

Getting a proper impression for a proper trump takes a while (unless you're Dworkin, the cheater...), perhaps an hour to an hour and a half of observation. A quick sketch will only be good for a few hours or only when they are in similar meetings.

On this one since I am well hidden I'll stay that way and start watching for the impression while keeping an eye out. Then she'll move onto the next precinct and apply for a job. While enroute she get a little dirt on her face and clothing so that she is not so noticeable.
