Oren Knight had been trying to get into SU for almost a year. His initial test was a disaster, he tested as a null. It took several months to find out exactly why he was rejected. Clearly that was impossible, but it was a lot of paperwork to get the test overturned so he could have a second chance. He was 14 when his power first manifested. At least, he thinks that's when it first showed up. He was taking piano lessons from someone down the street and ended up developing a severe allergy to sunlight. When the vampire was chased out of town, he recovered quickly, but only he believed his story. He had never been bit. At 16, he noticed it again. When a substitute math teacher replaced his normal teacher for a week, he found he was telekinetic. When his old teacher came back, that too faded, and Oren wondered what was going on. When he applied for SU, he had spent a hour before the test arguing with his parents about why he was going to "throw his life away on pursuing something that isn't real." And during his visit, he was shutting down magic around him. It wasn't until after he found out the reason his application was refused that he finally understood what he was. Oren had suspected for a while, but he needed proof. So he entered the blast zone over the first full-moon of winter. His first encounter was with a werewolf. The fight was quick and bloody. Oren's wounds closed as quickly as the other wolfs, and it only took the pain of the first bite to encourage his talent to shapeshift. The werewolf, seeing he was fighting another of his kind, backed off. Six months later, the recruiter was skeptical. But in the end Oren was accepted into the Applied Mythology program, with a possible offer as a research assistant. |

Since arriving in the greater insert-name-of-city-here area, Oren has found that he can fairly reliably mimic a bit of pyrokinesis - regardless of whether or not there's anyone around. |

The key points I'd like to have stable here: 1: Oren cannot currently control his magic. He uses it by instinct and fear. 2: He is very inexperienced. This is his first semester on campus, and the first time he's had his power away from nulls and near any real magic users. 3: He was originally classified as a null, and that will haunt him for a while as colleges are notorious for taking forever to update such things in all possible places. |
