In response to Stewart's message, Aurora replies, "Do let me know if anyone sees that warlock resurface." The tone is quite calm and conversational, and if taken out of the context of the fight one could almost not be blamed for failing to sense the underlying aim of the query. Almost. Her next action is equally misleadingly calm, a lethargic wave of two fingers and a sphere of fire begins twining around her hand and arm.

The priestess takes another step away from Luma, putting her on the very edge of the behemoth's carapace, where she starts into another powerful spell. Luma blurs, fading momentarily into shadows before reappearing next to the gnoll. This time, though, the priestess manages to twist out of the way. She grins in triumph, the spell she's casting rises to a dire crescendo... and then Aurora's flame bolt slams into her side, cutting off the cast with a yelp of pain.

The behemoth continues the same attacks as before. Again, most of the eye rays miss Luma, and those that hit don't seem to have any effect. However, it does manage to shred one of Stewart's constructs - though the other construct is still largely undamaged, and still quite in the way of it getting to Stewart.

Kailyn and Eenyrl between them are able to finish off the injured wight; it has no resistances to either fire or holy power.

The one remaining (non-cocooned) wight continues to slash at Stewart, and finally manages to land a single glancing blow.

Ametrine:
Naralex ignores you, which means you can get a fairly good look at what he's writing. It roughly summarizes as follows, though the language is highly technical, and contains rather more magically exact descriptions.*
Breath weapon ineffective against highly mobile targets - expected.
Crown of Eyes largely negated by displacement - need improved sensory mechanisms. May also need a better lure for the trap.
Individual tactical capability nonexistent - exacerbated by incompetent gnolls. Expected, but may need to be revised anyway. Bound ghosts, perhaps?

______
* In other words, you may assume that it comes with a heavy dose of technobabble. Err, thaumobabble? Whatever. Suffice to say that it's not easy to read.

Stewart stares at the wight with a minor amount of shock. His ears flatten and he flicks a single claw at it. A green beam shoots out to the undead gnoll, which explodes into a puff of dust. Stewart then turns to the behemoth with a similarly irritated look. Another winged construct begins pouring out of the Plane of Dreams next to the behemoth, but it seems to fade out of existence quickly. Stewart seems satisfied, however.

Ametrine turns to Corax and asks if she could explain to him some of the thaumobabble Naralex has written down.

[OOC: In case you're confused by the previous post, Corax - a raven-headed sphinx roughly the size of a small housecat - is currently also reading over Naralex's shoulder. She also happens to be sneaky to the point of being effectively invisible, which is why her presence hasn't been mentioned before now.]

"Nope. Not a clue." Corax's voice drifts out of apparently empty air near Naralex.

Naralex continues to ignore the both of you.

Aurora drops into a steep dive, plunging towards the priestess. She pulls up just short of hitting the abomination's carapace with a slight wince, as if the abrupt cessation of motion had aggravated her existing injuries. The wince rapidly fades into a sardonic grin at the gnoll.

Silence descends on the top of the behemoth - supernatural quiet, quite capable of snuffing out the incantations needed for (normal) spellcasting. The priestess is not amused.

Luma, on the other hand, is. She grins, and grabs the gnoll. The priestess struggles, but all she's managed to do so far is put herself in the path of a few of the behemoth's eye rays.

There is a thunderous clap (well, if you happen to be outside of Aurora's silence effect) as the behemoth fires off another line of lightning at Stewart. Its claws rip in to the one construct it can see, though it doesn't manage to get a hold on it just yet.

Kailyn trots back over to Stewart and taps the hrassa on the shoulder with his horn. The resulting healing doesn't even completely offset the second lightning strike - but it's certainly better than nothing.

Eenyrl takes a few steps closer to the behemoth, and seems to concentrate on something for a moment.

Naralex adds the following note:
Crown of Eyes requires additional accuracy, in case of close combat within the trapped zone. May be preventable via alternative lure options?

The lighting again crackles around Stewart, but this time it builds to a noticeable field around his right arm. He raises his arm towards the behemoth, and the energy focuses around his hand before being released as a lightning bolt that shoots out towards the underside of the behemoth. One of the multitude of tentacles fries to calamari, and Stewart grins.

The grin fades as Stewart looks at Eenryl. "I don't have time for that." A quiet bass hum sounds around Eenryl as one of his feet becomes encased in crystal. Then, in the space of an eyeblink, Eenryl turns into the translucent crystal himself. Stewart comments aloud to those around him, and magically to his allies who are not: "The warlock is trapped in Eenryl. Don't release him yet."

Aurora shoots an irritated glare at not-Eenyrl, then darts forward drawing a silver dagger from her belt. A vicious lunge at an opening in the grapple buries the dagger to its hilt in the back of the priestess with a flare of sickly green and dark energy.

The behemoth fires another blast of lightning at Stewart. Kailyn just dodges again, and even Stewart himself manages to avoid the brunt of the blast - and his defensive magics absorb most of the rest. The behemoth also continues to tear into Stewart's construct - it looks like the construct might last another round or two, but no longer than that.

Luma and the priestess continue to struggle; Luma has the upper hand (though the grapple is a closer contest than she'd like), managing to put the priestess directly in the path of the most dangerous of the behemoth's eye beams. Which suddenly brings a new perspective: restraining the priestess is no longer an issue. Getting disentangled from the resulting stone statue of a gnoll, is. (Though not a serious issue; more a minor annoyance.) Luma shadow steps (teleports), statue in tow, to the ground near Stewart - while she may not be overly concerned about eye rays, there's still no reason to maximize her exposure to the kind of bad luck that took out the priestess.

A few more (live) gnolls poke their heads around corners, having apparently finally caught up - and, seeing what's going on, they immediately retreat again.
