"No, no, not those clowns. The Guild. And only probably - though roughing up one of the King's messengers does make that a bit more likely..."

Maya: "That was one of the king's messengers? The king must want to go to war with messengers with an attitude like that."

"That wouldn't surprise me..." the chromatikin mutters. "But no, they're suitably obsequious if they're talking to someone they think outranks them."

Maya: "I'm not part of their culture, I fall completely outside their ranking system, such idiocy should really be beaten out of them. Also what guild is this that you speak of?"

She blinks. "The assassin's guild, of course. What other guild did you think I would be a part of? It's just that we prefer not to use that term directly."

Maya: "Assassins don't normally capture, so I was unsure. Why is your guild no longer taking contracts on me?"

"I don't know. Orders to that effect came down about half an hour ago. Doesn't make much sense, to be honest - usually a moratorium is reserved for meddling in politics, and I can't see that your life has much influence there."

"And no, I don't normally deal in capturing - but," she casually flips the sap from hand to hand, "They paid me with this thing, and it's fairly strongly enchanted - worth more than my normal fee for a kill would be, at least."

Maya: "Well I have nothing to do with politics so it must be something else. As for clothing, I'm not sure how realistic I'll blend in unless you can disguise the way I move and act as well."

"We'll just have to see what we can do, then."

So they go clothes shopping...
