The locals referred to the area as "Curse Hill." Indeed, the stubby mound before you seems to merit the name: around it lie lush fields, but everything on the hill itself is dead or dying - a clear sign of the presence of undead.

The setting sun behind you shines its light into a thin crack in the side of the hill; the chamber beyond is littered with broken bones, mostly human.

Thirwin sighs for a moment, taking time to flip his holy symbol over, under his clothing. He’ll incant Invisibility to Undead, and enter. Looking around, his hand on a stone in a pocket, he also casts detect magic.

The room is empty, aside from the bones that crunch underfoot - bones already crushed and broken, as if to get at the marrow inside. The remains of adventurers, most likely, though if so they've been thoroughly looted - perhaps by things that dwell below, or perhaps by the local farmers if this first chamber is safe during daytime.

The walls are worked stone, scarred by claw marks up to around head height. Some of the markings seem more deliberate, perhaps even patterned.

On the far side of the room is a hole in the floor. Regular notches in the wall beside it indicate that it once held a wooden staircase, going both up and down, though there is no trace of such a convenience now.

The scratches are definitely written script, here: you recognize the word for "danger" repeated over and over in every language you know, and, presumably, some that you don't.

There is nothing in this chamber that registers as magical.

Thirwin grins and laughs, casting find traps. Undaunted, he orders his rope to knot itself and attach to the top of the pit, and slowly climbs in.

The second level is much like the first, though there are not so many skeletons here, and some remnants of equipment. A sword off in one corner emanates a faint hint of magic, though it's far too weak to be of any great interest.

The scratch marks in the walls here twist and writhe (albeit not literally moving), the indecipherable scrawlings of some madman strong enough to sink claws into solid stone.

Thirwin will pause long enough to pick up the sword, just on a hunch and continue.

The third level, at first glance, looks much like the first two. There are differences, though. The most obvious being that you've hit ground; the staircase, when it existed, went no further. The other is that the markings on the wall have ceased to even resemble language - perhaps there were meaningful marks here, once, but whatever it was tore into the walls again and again until nothing of the original smooth surface remained.

The layer of bones is thicker here than it was on the second floor, and a number of magical items remain intact - though, by your standards, nothing of any great value. Interestingly, none of the items glow; it appears that any weapon that also functioned as a light source has been broken by whatever inhabits this ruin.

Set in the middle of the floor is a large circular stone plug. Once, it would have blocked further progress downwards, but the center of it has been clawed to pieces. Looking through, you can see a long hallway underneath, its sides lined with funerary niches - though the stonework there is in no better condition than what you see around you.

Thirwin will call his rope down from above and attach it to the hole. Looking around in the darkness, he attaches the rope to the top of the hole, and climbs down again.

This seems set up like any other crypt; the path before you should lead to a central nexus, with several branches off from there.

The coffins along sides of the hall have been broken into; clawed apart. No trace of even bones remains in them - nothing beyond an ancient layer of dust.

There are a few skeletons on the floor here, around where you landed, but none in the hall ahead. It seems this is furthest point any prior explorer has reached. A cold wind seems to blow through the corridor, though the air is still.

checking for traps as a thief might, Thirwin continues down the hallway, prodding ahead with the sword he picked up.
