While the golem doesn't go flying, as a smaller object would, the first blast takes away most of its momentum. It crashes into the stairs a few feet below you, ripping the flimsy wooden construction apart with its weight.

The second bolt sears a melted patch into its already scarred surface, and leaves flickers of napalm-like flame playing across its back and side.

It regains its balance in just a second or two, and prepares to launch itself at you again.

Aurora skitters backwards, launching another bolt of fire at the golem as she does so.

The construct leaps at you, ignoring the incoming fire - but, again, falls short; apparently it's simply not capable of jumping up an entire floor's height.

More fireballs slam into the brass creature, Aurora pummeling away as she hovers ready to back up further should the creature get a clawhold and climb up.

The rat makes a second lunge at you - and it does, indeed, get a solid clawhold in the stairs. Unfortunately for it, the stairs are, in turn, less than solid, and it goes crashing to the cellar floor again. And then, with an immense groaning noise, through the cellar floor entirely.

There's a moment of silence, then a splash.

"Oh for..." Aurora mutters, and swoops down to the hole in the floor. Kneeling on the edge, she peers diown into the giant-rat-golem sized opening.

Below the hole is a square shaft going down; perhaps sixty feet across and eighty feet down. It's amazing that it didn't take more of the floor with it when it fell - this entire house could easily fit down the shaft.

The water below is murky, but there's some signs of a wake headed off at an angle; it appears the fall did not result in a broken rat.

With a muttered oath of exasperation, Aurora drops down through the whole, once again fading from sight. She flies towards the wake, remaining well above the water, and attempts to determine if the wake is indeed the rat or something the rat disturbed when it fell through the floor and into the water.

You're in a massive oblong tunnel; the wake you're following is headed for the nearest edge. As you watch, though, two more wakes start up on intercept courses. Or what would be intercept courses, if they weren't going to hit the edge first...

The brass rat surges out of the water, and whirls around to view the area behind it. A moment later, two creatures launch attacks at it (and at each other) - salvos of spike-edged tentacles lashing out of the water.

Aurora stays her hand, watching the attack and ready to counter any attacks sent her way (though she expects none) or to strike at the golem should it attempt to escape. Null hadn't hired her to clear out the sewers or underground lakes after all...
