The were-rat lets out an inhuman yelp, and staggers backwards, its dagger hitting the ground next to it with a thud.

Aurora drops down on the battered were, giving it a sharp kick in the head with a foot that feels much harder than what one might expect from an ordinary boot. She spins, rapidly scanning the ground floor now that she can see more of it than from her previous angle.

The were-rat falls with a thud; the rest of the ground floor appears empty, though you can hear the sound of something moving in the basement.

Leaving the unconscious wererat on the floor, Aurora moves around the ground floor to the top of the stairway leading down to the basement and peers down.

There is nothing within immediate view. The sounds of motion have stopped, and you can hear someone chittering rapidly through a prayer to Karpuzlu.

Aurora drifts down the staircase, invisible once more, holding an attack ready in her mind in case the prayer came from a cleric or priest who could spot her through her concealment.

There are two female were-rats in the basement; both look comparatively young and inexperienced. One is lying in a corner, resting, if not actually asleep. The other kneels before a makeshift altar, upon which rests a brass rat statue, perhaps a foot in length.

She finishes her prayer, and hurriedly steps back - but does not seem aware of your presence.

Aurora's attack on the last two wererats is cast weaker than it could have been, though not for any real concern over the targets being young or female. More of an enlightened self-interest, really, Aurora herself isn't bothered by such things but having townsfolk harangue her about being "cruel" and "bloodthirsty" is bad enough but with a party of potentially "goody two-shoes" people in town she doesn't exactly want to have to worry about the party joining in. Parties that went around righting wrongs and creating song fodder for bards were obnoxious to deal with when they got it into their collective heads to go after Aurora, all the worse if they had a paladin.

A second sickly bolt rockets out from Aurora's position halfway down the stairs, splitting in mid-air to slam into both weres.

The one that was standing crumples to the ground; the one that was lying down continues to do so, though that in itself is an indication of the efficacy of the attack.

The brass rat, however, does not remain stationary. Indeed, it expands at an alarming rate, looks around, and then launches eight feet of brass golem straight at you. The fact that there's half a staircase in the way doesn't seem to even enter its consideration.

The explosive motion of the golem catches Aurora by surprise and her next attack is purely instinctive. A smoky ball of force slams into the golem with a ball of fire hard on its "heels".
