07.14: Friday Morning

Post by Joshua »

(OOC: New XP total posted. It seemed to me that most pcs were wrapping things up for a while now. Feel free to finish up stuff that happens that night if it's important. New stuff in bold, otherwise, it's almost the same festival that started on day 1.)

Friday morning does not have a prefect blanket of snow. Perhaps because this is a gap between major events. There is plenty of snow left, and some fresh snow from overnight, but the pathways are still visible even before the festival begins. The day is uncomfortably bright in a few places near the castle, but at least the snow in the city is dirty and not very reflective.

Still going strong*, on the very large grounds of Castle Amber is a full pavilion-style festival. Dozens of games of skill and strength are set up as well as countless shops and food stalls. Fennel cake, popcorn, as well as various foods from 100 other cities are offered. (Cotton Candy is making a repeat appearance from last year.)
The castle itself is on display, with the stone polished to a gleaming white that makes the snow seem ever so slightly dirty. Tours, short inexpensive ones, as well as more extravagant ones (for a higher price) are offered by the castle staff.

A small amphitheater is performing Shakespeare in the Snow, the story of Richard II, told with snowball fights and the dumping of snow down tunics. (Fairly close to the Shakespearean version.)
New: Ossian is glued to his seat during the play.

There are many other nooks that can be found if you look. (Ask if it's here, it probably is. Or nearby.)
There is a small pond currently with free-skating and regular carriages to and from the city. There is a small competition schedules for the afternoon, but the major skating stuff happens later in the week. Back by popular demand, there's also the Junior skate-joust, for the kids.

New: Since there is no major events, this is a smaller day. Lighter crowds, although more people are thus free to enjoy the smaller aspects. There is a tree lighting ceremony on the grounds of the castle. Scheduled for dusk, a christmas-tree analog will be lit by hundreds of candles and shining mirrored ornaments.
__________
*: It's like this all week actually.

Midmorning on Friday there's a small explosion in a bad part of town - including someone setting off a signal flare that bursts in a pattern resembling some sort of giant burning spider. On the plus side, perhaps due to all the snow, it doesn't seem to have started any fires.

Given that gunpowder mostly doesn't work in Amber, it's a fairly safe bet that someone's playing around with some sort of magic.

By around noon, there are rumors going around that the Raven has mandated the construction of a series of cat shelters. Nobody seems to be quite certain on the circumstances or wording... but at the same time, nobody wants to be seen questioning an Amberite.

Spellbinder opens his eyes and sits up on the couch. Couch? He looks over and see Chance and Risk sound asleep in his bed. "Hey, why do they get the bed? It's my bed. Oh well, it was a late night and they need the sleep more than I do."

He proceeds to shave and send for breakfast. Hoping for a quiet day, he settles in to start reracking his spells. He used quite a few yesterday, but it was time and energy well spent. He starts at "to do" list for himself: double check the water purification system, secure his private sanctum, figure out how he's going to sort out the mess with... Wait! What is that? Looking out over he city, he seems what seems to be a large burning spider hanging in the air. Superhero experience says that something isn't right and he should investigate at once.

As he leaps to his feet, the fabric of his sweats flows and forms itself into a familiar costume. He dashes out onto his balcony and takes to the air...

Jiga will show up for morning training with the Shadow Striders and then spend some time getting to know them, getting in extra practice, and generally trying to put herself at Rogbar's disposal.

When not otherwise engaged, Lyra spends the morning with her husband, seeking to iron out the details of a home in Faetown and potential locations for her business.
