Worthless devotions

Found this amusing. I'm compiling a list of devotions and bloodlines, to make searching through the endless cruft of WW books simpler, and found the most worthless devotion ever.

Body of Will (Resilience 3, Vigor 1)
For 15 XP (whoever thought paying MORE than standard was a good plan should be punched) you get to spend a blood trait to ignore wounds for several rounds (at least activation is reflexive).

Compare to physical merit Iron Stamina... which for 12 XP (to buy all three dots separately) allows you to IGNORE ALL WOUND PENALTIES. All the time. For free.

Vampires are gullible.

Incidentally, it is almost fair to note that iron stamina requires either stamina 3 or resolve 3. But what does Resilience 3 give you? That's right folks, +3 Stamina permanently. Then I thought, well maybe it should be worth, like 6-9 XP. But I would rather spend 6 XP on the first two dots, and only suffer -1 at my last health level. The last dot, not so much worth it.

I agree, but I dont think that Body of Will is the most worthless. It sux a lot, but its not worthless. I bet that there are way more worthless Devotions out there...right?

It's far from worthless, but it is definitely weak. A bit too weak. If you wanted to propose an alternative, I'd be willing to listen.

There is the possibility that Iron Stamina is living creatures only, but I don't read it that way.

I hadn't any real thoughts on alternatives, but they would have to either have no activation cost or be cheaper (or both) OR have some sort of benefit over what the merit gives you. Really though, since the merit exists, and isn't creation only, and is relatively cheap, I don't see the need for a power to overlap with it. It would be like having a celerity devotion that gave you the effects of kung-fu, or something.

An alternative, perhaps, is spend a blood, and add your Vigor to your health levels for a specified duration (probably 1 or 2 rounds per success, or one scene on an exceptional success). I will admit, I don't know if this duplicates any other effects out there.

That's a Carthian devotion actually.

the merit specifically reduces wound penalties by 1-3, it dose not negate all wound penalties. the devotion dose. so if your affected by a power that increases your woud penalties then the devotion would have a use.

I am not familiar with any power that gives wound penalties over 3. It would then have a very narrow benefit over the merit if such a power existed. If wound penalties were commonly over 3 then I could see the power being possibly worth it. Still it's costly and short lived.

dont get me wrong. i wouldnt buy the power. just saying that such a wound penalty imposingpower might exist. or might have been intended to exist,
