"Sir..." Nathaniel asks, "If I may ask... Why are you ... bloodied?"

Solten spins toward Asai as she bursts from the water, prepared for an attack. However, as this attack comes in the form of flying water, he simply stands back up and and turns to Alys with a crooked grin. "It appears your not the only one to think I need a bath." He turns back to Asai, "A pleasure to meet you, I think." Solten isn't quite sure what to make of Asai and after a moment shrugs and offers a handshake to her as well. "Ah yes, the ball... I had quite forgotten about that. That would require getting cleaned up, wouldn't it." He thinks for a moment. "Sure, I'll take that offer of a tour."

He turns back to Nathaniel. "Let's just say that it was an adventure that got a bit out of hand. Word of wisdom for you: Be careful what you wish for. Especially when it's a dragon." He shakes his head and perks back up. "And where are you three headed? Care to make a larger tour party?"

Alys blinks at the word 'dragon', but doesn't comment on it - perhaps expecting that the curiosity of others will suffice to elicit any relevant details.

"Well... our next stop was to be the mage guild, but I start to wonder - would the people we'd want to talk to even be there now, or would they be off preparing for the evening's festivities?" Alys looks over at Nathaniel. "Perhaps it would be better to finish this some other time?"

"I trust your judgement. And you could summon them to Rebma, if you wanted. For this afternoon, it shouldn't be difficult to make sure someone is there." Nate answers. "It seems things are starting to happen though."

"We'll pick this up later, then. Or perhaps," Alys glances at Ruben, "just find the mage guild on our own. For now..."

Alys produces a piece of paper from under her cloak and holds it out to Nathaniel; it's deep blue, folded over once, and decorated with embossed wave patterns - it should not be hard to deduce that it's an invitation to the evening's ball.
"I think you've earned this. Now, if I may make a suggestion - I suspect you'd find it worth your time to go with Solten; make sure that both he and you are prepared for the evening's festivities."

"After all," Alys turns back to Solten, "Even if one does not stand on formality, one should still at least know what treasured cultural assumptions one is crushing underfoot. And Nathaniel should be quite capable of giving you a quick refresher on expected behavior - though, of course, how much of that you choose to follow..." Alys grins and shrugs, clearly not overly concerned.

Asai blinks a few times as Solten accepts an offer she hadn't actually made and then shrugs with a flip of her ears. "I need to fetch a few things from Castle Amber before being ready for tonight, but that won't take very long and I could probably catch up fairly quickly, especially if grooming occurs before roaming..." Her voice trails off and her tail begins twitching rhythmically.

((Edited to provide a smoother transition for Asai to Ruben's post, since it doesn't actually really change anything... Asai is very random at times even without external provocation.))

With a grunt and a lunge, Ruben bursts into motion at the edge of the group, where he'd been standing with his back turned, staggering a few steps to cradle the weight of the sailor's cleat he'd plucked out of the air. Moments earlier, it had been hurled from the underdeck of a docked and quiet ship and was headed straight for Nathaniel.

He laid the heavy blunt object on the deck and turned back to Nathaniel and the group, "apparently, our efforts to conceal you were not fully successful. Stay here and be careful."

He hustled, without running to the ship's gangplank, and began to board, but stopped when he heard a splash from the far side.

Nate objects loudly, "Me?!?!"

The cleat (with picture) is approximately twenty pounds, not terrible for an item, but some of you would have trouble tossing it that far. Carved into the side are the words "Pattern Rat", a local insult about people who work too closely with the castle.

(I'd like to point out that few can match Ruben in the water, if he wants to follow. Also, Asai, you still have your water spells up which would beat most swimmers. Underwater shapeshifters might be an issue.)

Asai's tail abruptly stops lashing and she drops to all fours long enough to catapult herself towards the ship in question, straight over the heads of the group. A few bounds and she's up in the ship's rigging, peering over the edge of the craft. "I only see the one being," she calls back, crouching to launch herself forward once more.

Alys lowers her blade from the point in midair where it would have intercepted the cleat if Ruben hadn't gotten to it first, and looks in the direction of the splash.

"Probably just trying to lure us into a trap. Worth investigating regardless. Solten - you still need a bath, and no, dunking yourself in the bay isn't adequate. I'd suggest escorting Nathaniel down to Rebma - whoever planned this might make another attempt, even if just for artistic verisimilitude. If so, you should be able to deal with it."

Then she drops her cloak on the dock, and stalks off towards (and, if necessary, past) Ruben. "Well? What are you waiting for?"

There's probably also, as she heads across the ship to where the cleat-thrower hit the water, some annoyed muttering about "Why did Dworkin have to put this place next to an ocean?", but only the particularly keen of ear are likely to pick up on that.
